The human form alone or combined with a particular place, constitutes
the basis of my work. I am interested in our understanding of mortality,
physical presence and memory. Boundaries, thresholds and liminal states
provoke ideas that I try to realize through my art. The camera records
people and events out of context and I create the narrative that the
viewer completes. I use both traditional photography and digital processes.
Found pictures, snap shots and old family photographs may also enter
the dialogue. Images are reused and become symbolic - a personal
iconography. My subject matter is motivated by experiences and
relationships to people and place. Recent experiences have encouraged
me to think about our relationship to the earth, the land and to fertility.
Genetically we embody the past and future and consciousness creates
the body we live in. I try to tell a story, visualize a feeling and make sense
of the intangible journey that is our life. My current work is very much
influenced by my new role as a mother. I have made a series of portraits
combining myself and my daughter in differest ways. We are so physically
and emotionally linked and share a very intimate space that I have not
experienced before. I wanted to somehow express the stillness and tranquility
of this space, but at the same time deal with the conflict this causes..
